Boarding at Rishworth - The Inspection
Report
The
School has just received its Inspection Report
from The Commission for Social Care. It contains
comments based on the School’s Boarding
Inspection
As
expected, the final report from this government
body which statutorily inspects independent
schools, testifies to the excellence of
Rishworth boarding.
The
Report is quite outstanding, with the School
receiving the highest rating overall
(‘excellent’), and with all of the sections
separately assessed receiving the highest
rating, except one, which received the second
highest.
The CSCI
is documented as saying:
“This
school provides excellent outcomes for
the pupils who use it”
Rishworth School has a
thriving boarding community, which makes up
about a fifth to a quarter of the Senior School,
where British nationals, some of whose families
live abroad and some really quite locally, mix
with students from a wide range of
other countries (Estonia, Iran, Uzbekistan,
Russia, the Far East and so on, as well as a
handful from Germany itself). Through our
admissions policy, we are careful to ensure that
we remain a very diverse and dynamic community
in terms of academic abilities, non-academic
interests, and personalities. Our students are
generally balanced and considerate, and radiate
happiness and confidence in life generally,
achieving very highly indeed relative to their
own potential in all fields. Our latest
Independent Schools Inspection Report (which
looks at the whole school and not just
boarding) describes our pupils as being
'unfailingly courteous' - an extraordinarily
rare accolade of which, as you may imagine, we
are especially proud!
Our approach to boarding is
through the full integration of all boarders
within the school community as a whole: we do
not have a separate centre for international
students. We do, however, have a specialist
English as a Foreign Language Department which,
to complement the main curricular subjects
studied, provides English lessons specifically
tailored to suit the needs of boarders whose
first language is not English. There is a full
and exciting boarders' activity programme that
includes cultural and 'fun' trips away both on
designated week-day evenings and at weekends.
The Boarding Houses themselves are delightful:
the original character of their lovely, old,
stone-built construction has been preserved,
whilst, inside, students enjoy all the
convenience, comfort and homeliness - and of
course safety - of modern living, including
wireless and cabled internet/e-mail, accessible
from every study bedroom and communal
boarding-house area.
