Boarding at Rishworth - Location

The idyllic Pennine valley in which Rishworth School, with its extensive grounds, stands offers an environment conducive to happy learning: breathtaking views, pure air, the calm and safety of a semi-rural community, yet very easy routes to and from the airports of Manchester and Leeds. In addition to the local shops, which are a short walk away, there is ready access by bus to Halifax town centre as well as to the cities of Leeds and Manchester, host to the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

Coming to live as a boarder in Rishworth School brings you into a low-mountain landscape of remarkable beauty, with its mosaic of emerald-green pastures edged by the ancient, dry-stone walls which are so typical of the area, and studded with ruggedly-built houses and renovated former mills of attractive, sand-coloured stone. The sense of history in the area is immense: this is the very spot where the water-powered Industrial Revolution which swept through Europe began in the mid-seventeen hundreds. Rishworth School itself dates back to 1724, and the original school building, beautifully preserved, now serves as our school chapel.

A picturesque location, convenient for travel and rich in cultural heritage
