Creative Arts |
Music, Art and Drama thrive at Rishworth both as out-of-class activities and as academic
subjects. All three can be studied to G.C.S.E. and "A" level, practised recreationally, or both.
Music
A team of highly qualified specialist staff provides tuition in all orchestral and brass instruments
as well as in other disciplines, including piano, guitar, drum-kit, singing, percussion, organ and
electronic keyboard.

Our pupils’ success in Trinity College Music Examinations and their
achievements regionally and nationally are quite outstanding.
The teaching of Music has been much enhanced by the establishment of a music
ICT suite where students can compose and realise their compositions.
There is a Senior Choir (four-part), a Junior Choir (unison and two-part), a
Concert Band, a Dance Orchestra, and guitar, brass, string, woodwind and
percussion ensembles. There are Music Tours involving the bands and choirs
every two years. Destinations have included Denmark, Austria, France and
Italy.
The annual Music Festival includes a 'Young Musician of the Year'
competition involving pupils from Rishworth and Heathfield, and numerous
concerts and recitals are performed throughout the year.

Art
The fine quality of Art at Rishworth is in evidence in the Department and is on display around
the School. Students gain genuine fulfilment by expressing themselves in drawing, painting, three-dimensional work, and other media. The keenest artists go on to study at some of the
country’s most prestigious Art Colleges.

Drama
Drama is a popular and extremely successful subject in its
own right. The opportunity to perform is given excellent foundation at
Heathfield where productions are mounted at least twice a year. Rishworth has
staged many productions including Grease, Oh, What a lovely War,
Little Shop of Horrors and Oliver!. We are fortunate to have a well-equipped Performing Arts Centre which
stages productions for Years 9, 10 and
11 as well as showcasing examination performances for GCSE and A Level students.
This is a rapidly expanding area of the school which aims to offer performance
experience to as many students as possible. |
