Heathfield

Heathfield, Rishworth’s Junior School (including Nursery and Infant sections), provides a caring environment and a stimulating education for boys and girls from the ages of 3 to 11.

Set in its own grounds, Heathfield has excellent facilities which include a purpose-built infant block, a spacious hall, dining room, gymnasium and specialist teaching rooms. Heathfield also shares some of the Senior School’s facilities, including the swimming pool, performing arts centre and extensive playing fields.

The Early Years

The Foundation Stage

Children can join the School Nursery after the age of 3 years and then follow a two-year structured programme. At the end of their first year, after their 4th birthday, children transfer to the Reception classes. There is an emphasis on developing literacy and numeracy, personal and social skills, physical abilities and an appreciation of the environment.

Years 1 and 2

Children are engaged in a broad course of study which is based on the National Curriculum at Key Stage 1, but which is strengthened and extended by the excellent facilities Heathfield affords and by the input of specialist teachers.

The Junior Years

Years 3 to 6

Children aged 7 to 11 years continue to follow an exciting and challenging programme of study, which by this stage encompasses the National Curriculum at Key Stage 2, but which is enriched by further use of dedicated teaching areas and specialist teaching. These include, Music, Art, Drama, Sport, ICT, Design Technology and Science.

As for the Senior School, we believe that the atmosphere of the community is just as important as the subjects learned in class, and that when children are happy, they are most likely to fulfil their true potential. We recognise and treat each child as an individual and we work on the principle that everyone is good at something. The School offers a wide variety of interests and activities to encourage the growth and development of each pupil’s talents. We regard a good education as a matter of balance – between freedom and order, the needs of the community and those of the individual, and the development of mind and body.
