Pastoral care
Pastoral work is underpinned by the School’s caring ethos, by the fact that we are a small community with small classes, in which individuals can be known and made to feel valued as people, by an exceptionally committed staff, and by an effective pastoral system of which the parents, as well as the pupils and teachers, are considered an integral part.
We regard pastoral support as being central to the School’s main purpose and aims. As we listen and show understanding, we do not confuse pastoral care with ‘molly-coddling’ and we recognise that there are not only occasions when latitude should be afforded, but also instances where a firm stand needs to be taken. We believe that in general we strike this balance very well, which is one of the reasons why our pupils are usually so happy, successful, confident and balanced, and our parents so supportive.
| Every pupil at Rishworth will have a Tutor who oversees the academic progress and general well-being of each member of the Form, and who shows a particular interest, gives encouragement and guidance, and, where necessary, exhorts and insists. The Tutors work in close collaboration with their Head of School Section, who has overall responsibility for the pupils in the Year-groups in question, and, as necessary in individual cases, with other members of staff and parents. |
