Covid19 - Temporary School Closure

Please see below a statement from Dr Paul Silverwood regarding the temporary closure of the School site, due to Covid-19

As the situation surrounding the Coronavirus (Covid-19) rapidly evolves, and in view of the Prime Miniter's recent announcement in his press conferences, the Senior Leadership Team and the Board of Governors of Rishworth School of Rishworth School have taken the decision to close Rishworth School and Heathfield Preparatory School sites to students and visitors on Saturday 21st March 2020.

The School will remain open until the end of the week with our main focus being to enable Year 11 and Year 13 students to complete outstanding coursework related to external examinations.

Day Students

For day students, therefore, the last day in school will be Friday 20th March. The buses and after-school care at both sites will run as usual until the end of the day on Friday, if parents and guardians should need their children to access those facilities.

Boarding Students

We are aware that the parents and guardians of boarding students are making arrangements for our boarders to travel home or to their guardians within the next few days. We understand that this may cause some of you difficulties, especially those of you who live overseas, so please contact us if you have any concerns about travel arrangements. We want to ensure students are with their parent or guardian, whilst appropriate travel can be made.

I am aware that this advice differs from that which we offered last week. However, circumstances surrounding the Coronavirus in the UK and worldwide have changed significantly since then, and we must ensure that the health and well-being of our school community is priority.

Remote Learning

Parents will have received information regarding remote learning. The provision will begin on Monday 23rd March. Updates will continue to be sent via Rishworth Post throughout the School closure. We intent to remain in close communication with parents, guardians and students to ensure continuity of education throughout this uncertain time.

These are challenging times for all of us and careful consideration has been given to this decision. We will continue to monitor the evolving Government advice and further updates will be provided as needed.

We appreciate your support and will look forward to re-opening the School site as soon as it is appropriate.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Paul Silverwood, Head
