Rishworth School Independent Boarding & Day School

Rishworth School is a forward thinking, innovative day and boarding school that retains traditional values. We are an independent school with the freedom to offer an educational experience personalised to each child’s needs. We are a charity organisation originating from the Wheelwright legacy of 1724 where all our income is invested in the education of our children and the school. Our values are based on Christian ethics and we welcome those of all faiths or none to our community.

The school has existed for 300 years and occupies magnificent buildings within 140 acres of countryside within the beautiful Ryburn Valley.

Because your child will succeed academically…

As an example, 2024 summer A Level and GCSE results were excellent.

Year 11 results headlines are:

  • 92% of all GCSEs were passed with grades 9 – 4 (almost 25% above national average)
  • Just under a third GCSE results at Rishworth were with the best possible grades from 9 – 7 (A* – A)
  • GCSE attainments in Mathematics, English and Science were all above the national achievement rate with maths 24.6% higher, English 33% higher and science 26% higher.

Year 13 results headlines are:

  • For the fifth consecutive year over 90% of grades were awarded at A* - C
  • Over a quarter of all A-level results at Rishworth Sixth Form were with the best possible grades from A* - A
  • In BTEC and vocational qualifications, a 100% pass rate with all grades being within the higher grading boundaries of Distinction* to Merit

Because your child will excel out of the classroom...

Our academic curriculum is supplemented by a full and diverse selection of over 90 enrichment and extension activities. From our renowned Ford Rugby Academy through to our Medical Society there’s something to simulate, entertain and light that creative spark, Duke of Edinburgh Award, a jazz band rock climbing, ski trips, artistic pursuits, sports teams and more.

Because of this, your child will be able to access some of the best Universities…

University destinations of this year’s leavers included Russell Group progression to: York, Leeds, Manchester, Warwick, and Exeter.

100% of students applying to study medicine at University in the last 5 years were accepted and achieved their places.

From January 2024, Rishworth School will be celebrating it's 300th Anniversary.

Almost 300 years ago, Rishworth School was just an idea to our Founder, Mr John Wheelwright. This idea came into fruition following his passing in 1724. The first school building, the Old School, now our Chapel, opened its doors to children from the local community.

100 years later, the school expanded its grounds with the opening of the Wheelwright Building. These buildings are the foundation of the beautiful school we see today that now welcomes students from all over the world.

Over the past 300 years, many students and families have passed through our doors and made long-lasting memories in the walls of Rishworth. We therefore would like to extend an open invite to all students, Old Rishworthians, parents and friends of Rishworth who would like to celebrate with us at our events next year.
