At Rishworth Senior School, we believe that education goes far beyond the classroom. Our Enrichment & Extension programme offers every student a chance to explore, create, compete and grow, whether through sport, arts, performing arts or academic extension.
SPORT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Our Physical Education (PE) and Sports provision is wide-ranging and inclusive. The department caters for all standards, encouraging student interest, enjoyment, health and fitness for life. Through sport, we aim to develop qualities such as perseverance, initiative, confidence and independence.
Facilities at Rishworth include a modern sports hall with a dedicated strength and conditioning studio, a four‑court badminton hall, an on-site swimming pool with adjacent fitness suite, multiple grass pitches for football and rugby, tennis courts, and access to nearby cricket and astro‑turf hockey pitches for training and matches.
Our competitive sports programme is extensive: across a typical academic year, students might participate in over 400 fixtures, competing in regional and national competitions. Many pupils represent club‑level, regional or national teams across a range of disciplines, from rugby, hockey, netball and tennis to athletics, swimming, dressage and more.
Sporting enrichment isn’t limited to lessons. Additional lunchtime and after‑school sessions, as well as Period 6 EE activities, offer athletics, team sports, swimming, tennis and more, giving every student the opportunity to stay active, discover new interests, and develop teamwork and leadership.
CREATIVE AND PERFORMING ARTS
Creativity and artistic expression are central to life at Rishworth. Our Creative & Performing Arts (CAPA) programme invites every pupil to explore imagination, build artistic confidence, and express themselves through drama, music, art, design and performance.
In Drama, students participate in timetabled lessons, co‑curricular clubs, and public productions — from classical theatre to contemporary works — helping them build confidence, collaboration, creativity and communication skills. Speech & Drama and LAMDA tuition is available for those wishing to refine performance and communication further; theatre trips and workshops with industry professionals give added inspiration.
In Music, pupils can join ensembles such as orchestra, choir, jazz band or string groups; individual instrument lessons are offered by expert peripatetic tutors across a variety of instruments and styles. Weekly performance opportunities in assemblies, concerts and recitals encourage ongoing participation and growth. ABRSM and Rock School examinations are supported, and music scholarships are available for talented and dedicated students.
Our Art & Design programme offers specialist studios and encourages creative exploration through drawing, painting, printmaking, digital media, 3‑D work and textiles — giving students space to experiment and grow their artistic voice.
